This Is How You Lose the Time War

If you’re five years late to a time travel party, would anyone even notice? That’s the situation I find myself in after finally getting around to reading This Is How You Lose the Time War, by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone. It’s a stunning, well-executed love story that spans not just time but reality as we know it.

It always sounded like exactly the sort of thing I’d like to read, but it only ended up on my radar again last year when it had an unexpected viral resurgence because of Twitter. The book was published in 2019. While it’s not unheard of for a book to become more popular over time, this is one of the rare examples of a hype machine kicking into high-gear years later.

No matter how you might have heard about it, it’s worth your time. I’d recommend it to anyone who has even a passing interest in time travel or love stories.
